On our way....
BUCKET LIST CHECKED OFF ONE SCHOOL BREAK AT A TIME,, .. The Train Ride
Wow, what a fun trip. We have always wanted to ride the Am track train and man, what a great time we had!!!We left on a Tues.. Going in the middle of the week saves moolah people!!! Marla and Lisa drove up to my house in Lindsay and we then drove to Pauls Valley where we loaded the train. I think we paid around $60-$70 for the round trip.
Marla makes friend wherever she goes.... The conductor just had to have a picture with her... He was hysterical and so funny!
It was amazing, we enjoyed the scenery of Oklahoma and Texas farmland and the back woods that no one gets to see from the Highways. We saw small towns that we didn't even know about... We love 'old" things. We saw an old school house out in the middle of a field, unless you were on the train, you would have never known it was there.
This peach is apparently impressed that they have Pepsi in the snack car....
Once we arrived in Fort Worth we grabbed our bags and we walked from the train station (Which was a little sketchy, so be careful) to Sundance Square, just a few blocks away. Ohhh, I love that place. The food, the music, the old buildings, the atmosphere was amazing!!
Let me just tell you.... This was heavenly!!!
We did a little shopping, a lot of eating, and then took an Uber for the very first time in our lives to our hotel. Our Uber driver was so nice and even an educated man that had lost his job due to the oil business had going down. We were glad to have helped him out!! From Sundance Square to our hotel which was a little over 5 miles from where we were cost us only a couple of dollars. Well worth it!!
Thanks to Lisa's husband (my brother-in-law Johnny) who had points saved up, we split the bill and our hotel was about $70 bucks a piece. You can stay in Sundance Hill and we plan on doing that sometime, but we decided to be thrifty this time!
We spent two glorious days in Ft. Worth and even got to see an old friend who lives there. We have all known each other for a long time. Stacy use to live in Oklahoma and we met her in the 6th grade. She walked in to PE class and said, "Are those two twins?" Well, in case you didn't know, Lisa and I are twins. hahah
Marla and Paula are a little bit older than us, but they don't look it. Stacy and her sister Paula came and picked us the last night we were in town and took us to a hanky spanky restaurant where we spent more money there than we had the whole trip, but by golly... the food was amazing!!! If you are looking for the best steak in Texas, try the REATA, it was heavenly!!
Before we headed out on our last day we took an Uber driver back to the train station where they held our luggage for free... You know we love that FREE word... This of course gave us extra room to buy goodies if we wanted to. We walked back to Sundance Square and we saw them... BIKES!!! We OF COURSE had to ride them on our last day there.... They are there on the sidewalks and you can rent one...It was so fun!! We didn't ride very long, we already had a few packages and some drinks and you know how difficult that can be... I was in a skirt...But that made no difference to me! HA!
We then made our way to the beautiful Water gardens in downtown Ft. Worth... It was amazing...We so enjoyed that. We only stayed two days and I wish we had stayed longer...There is so much to see in Fort Worth, we definitely plan to go back this next summer on the train and do more things!!
Right before we boarded the train to head home on Thursday we passed a Cheesecake factory as we walked to the Train station from Sundance Square, and seriously people, who can pass up cheesecake? We each bought one to have as a treat and Marla ended up wearing most of mine.. Sorry about that Mar!!
It was time to head home and we were super sad... It had been such a great trip... and poor Lisa, she was mad because Marla and I sat together... Don't worry, she got over it!!! haha!!
This trip was one for the books and we WILL be doing this again!!! Thanks Fort Worth...The Three Broke Teachers will be back!!!
